This year’s event took place in the striking setting of the White Cube Gallery, where 80 guests were treated to a private viewing and a themed three-course dinner created by Ampersand Events.
Original butterfly artworks, created especially for the charity by acclaimed artists including Damien Hirst, Tracy Emin, David Bailey, Gavin Turk, Peter Blake, Shepard Fairey and Yinka Shonibare, were there for the bidding. The pieces were identically framed and hung at the gallery and the creator of each image was kept secret until the silent auction had closed. With the catalogue in hand, many guests attempted to use their best detective skills to link the relevant artist to each piece.
The meal gave us an early chance to show off some of our fresh summer dishes, from salmon poached in liquorice gel and orange scented caviar to seared duck breast, walnut granola and young summer vegetables.
The showstopper was the dessert – our own butterfly artworks, handcrafted in rich chocolate, complemented a delicate makrut lime and cardamom panna cotta.
All proceeds from the evening are being used to support Demelza’s work, including art therapy and art projects across the UK.
Ampersand Events is proud to have been part of this exceptional event for this great cause. We are already excited to work with them again in September for a dinner almost five times the size. We just hope it makes as big of an impact that the Butterfly Auction has.
