60 Seconds with Toks Akande

Get to know Toks, our brand new Head of Operations and Logistics, responsible for the daily running of the operations team and ensuring that we always provide first class service at our venues. She's already making a stir in her newly created role, and we couldn't be happier to  have her on board.

Which event have you most enjoyed working on in your career, and why?

The Les Miserables after party in 2012. This was a perfect event, which I was able to thoroughly enjoy not only from an operational standpoint, but creatively too, as I was able to use a lot of creative flair in the preparation.

What is the best thing you have ever eaten?

Homemade Nigerian food, in particular Jollof rice. The dish simply consists of rice, tomatoes and tomato paste, onion, salt, spices and chili pepper, but optional ingredients can be added too, such as vegetables, meats and fish.

Share an event situation that required a quick creative solution?

Our van once got stuck in masses of traffic en-route to a client wedding, and the power went down at the venue – nightmare! In an attempt to make the best of a terrible situation, we harnessed the street food craze and cooked hotdogs in percolators, dashing to local restaurants to source side dishes.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

I would love to learn to fly a helicopter and have the opportunity to see the world from a different perspective.

If you could witness any event (past, present or future) what would it be?

Eve plucking the apple from the tree in the Garden of Eden.

If you could be any fictional character, who would you choose?

Jessica Rabbit.

If someone asked you for a single piece of advice, what would you say?

Have fun, and always go with your heart.

If you could be a superhero, what would you want your superpowers to be?

Telepathy, so I could know exactly what every client is thinking.
