Serving up a Big Breakfast to the Magical Taxi Tour
The convoy of licensed London taxis took over 200 children, who live with a range of chronic debilitating illnesses and life-limiting conditions, on a magical trip to Disneyland Resort in Paris. This unique charity event is fittingly known as The Children’s Magical Taxi Tour, and it takes place every year.
The trip began at East Wintergarden where Ampersand Events was on hand to offer a 'big breakfast' for the children, volunteers, drivers and supporters to keep them going on their big journey. Our group of volunteers from across the Ampersand family helped serve 500 people on the day!
Organised annually by the Worshipful Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers, every aspect of the trip is planned and delivered by unpaid volunteers. Each taxi is sponsored to cover the children’s hotel, fuel, food, and admission charges, while the taxi drivers give their time and use of their vehicles freely.
Since the first ever Tour in 1994 over 16,000 packed lunches have been supplied to children, drivers and helpers and those drivers who have volunteered every year since 1994 have clocked up 13,000 unpaid miles of driving ‘on the meter’.
