The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Very hungry children who visit Hampton Court Palace from today can find a familiar friend to help them choose a healthy meal after soaking up some history – The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The iconic children’s book has sold 30 million copies since first launch in 1969 and its star - the caterpillar - has now turned its attention to helping healthy eating with the launch of a children’s range that includes all the vital nutritional elements needed to keep your children’s energy up, muscles growing and bones strong.
Seasonal fruit pots, crudités and carefully sourced healthy snacks are now on sale, along with well-loved sandwich favourites and a small treat selected to have minimum impact on added sugar and excess fat, yet maximum ‘yum’ factor for children. The menu encourages children themselves to choose from this healthy selection that they then store in Very Hungry Caterpillar branded boxes. It is the first of a series of healthy children’s meal ranges at three Historic Royal Palaces where we provide meals for visitors. It is designed to both maximise appeal to children and reassure parents.
I can say, hand on heart, I would be happy for my little ones to tuck into a Very Hungry Caterpillar lunchbox.
Consultant nutritionist Amanda Ursell...
...advised us on the meal composition and commented: “I have a four and two year old and I usually take a packed lunch with me when we go out for the day because of the unhealthy options I so often see on offer at visitor attractions. I can say, hand on heart, I would be happy for my little ones to tuck into a Very Hungry Caterpillar lunchbox. The selection of choices has been carefully thought through to both appeal to children’s likes and parents desire for their off spring to eat food that is good for them.”
In the newly refurbished Tiltyard Café, you can also find The Very Hungry Caterpillar Den, furnished with comfortable seating for the children and toys, games and books. Do check it out.
