East Wintergarden and Ampersand support children's Magical Taxi Tour
A convoy of licensed London taxis transported more than 200 children - suffering from a range of debilitating illnesses - on a trip of a lifetime to Disneyland in Paris.
The trip started at East Wintergarden in Canary Wharf, where Ampersand Events provided breakfast for cabbies, children, volunteers and supporters, before the giant convoy departed for Dover.
The Magical Taxi Tour convoy was over three miles long and consisted of over 100 taxis, City of London Police escorts, Gendarmerie Nationale vehicles, London Ambulances, and AA breakdown trucks.
The annual event began in 1994 and is organised by the Worshipful Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers. The taxi drivers give their time and use of their vehicles for free.
Since its inception more than 16,000 packed lunches have been supplied to children, drivers and helpers and this is the fourth year that Ampersand have hosted this event. Those drivers who have volunteered every year since 1994 have clocked up 13,000 unpaid miles of driving ‘on the meter’.
