Laura Amos scoops Employee of the Year award

Laura Amos, the talented catering manager for Ampersand at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, Edinburgh, was crowned Employee of the Year at the CiS (Catering in Scotland) Excellence Awards 2017.

Popular and respected by client, customers and team alike, Laura is always looking to enhance and develop the catering offer, herself and her team – and this positive approach scooped her the coveted prize. Notably, Laura is credited with recognising the rapidly-growing afternoon tea market as a great sales opportunity for the Café at the Palace. By developing a successful offer, which included introducing an online booking system, building relationships with food bloggers and overseas travel trade, and attending food festivals, afternoon tea sales increased an astounding 400% in 2016 and visitor numbers were up 30,000. Laura said: “What an incredible night the CiS Awards was! It is such an honour to win this award. I work with a brilliant team and my success is down to their ongoing hard work and support. It really is a team effort and I thank them all.” Phil Wilkinson, operations director for Ampersand, said: “Laura really is everything a catering manager should be, and much more. She’s passionate, conscientious, results-driven and dedicated to delivering a first-class experience for customers, which makes her a most worthy winner of this fantastic award. Her forward-thinking approach coupled with innovative marketing ideas have made a real difference to the success of the catering operation at the Palace of Holyroodhouse and we all congratulate her on her success.” Laura received her award at the CiS Awards dinner on Thursday 25 May at the Hilton Glasgow.
