Usain Bolt, Olympic gold medalist, Zeitz Foundation ambassador and fastest man in the world, hosted a fundraising gala at ZSL London Zoo for the Zeitz Foundation and Zoological Society of London (ZSL).
The evening raised more than £175,000 towards the Zeitz Foundation’s efforts to protect habitats and ecosystems around the world and ZSL’s efforts to conserve cheetah and African wild dogs and the landscapes that support them.

Guests at the star studded event included Jochen Zeitz, Stella McCartney and husband Alasdhair Willis, Tamsin Egerton, Suzy Menkes, Isaac Julien, Ron Arad, Julia Peyton-Jones, Michael Craig-Martin, Fletcher Cowan, Wretch32 and Alia Al Senussi.

The guests were greeted with Cocktails, warm Mulled Apple Punch, Champagne and Roasted Chestnuts cooked on giant pans and served in kilner jars, whilst being entertained by the Finchley London Children’s Choir in ZSL London Zoo’s Amphitheatre. Projections of running wild dogs then lead the way from the Amphitheatre to the spacious Prince Albert Suite within the Regents building of ZSL London Zoo where the Event was hosted.

The Ampersand event catering team based at ZSL London Zoo was delighted to team up with acclaimed chef Yotam Ottolenghi to create a unique dining experience. Guests were treated to a vegetarian feast starting with a watercress and chickpea soup, mains including roasted butternut squash and red onion with tahini and zaatar as well as roasted aubergine with preserved lemon and garlic yoghurt and a dessert of set yoghurt pudding with roasted plums, rhubarb and pistachios.

The evening, compered by former Olympic medalist and Zeitz Foundation specialist Colin Jackson, included the world premiere of a new composition by Richard Sisson, as well as an auction featuring unique lots to raise vital funds. The amazing lots included Usain Bolt's running vest for 100mts Olympic gold in London, a Vivienne Westwood Couture “Cocotte” gown, an unforgettable wildlife safari including tracking African wild dogs and cheetah with conservation experts, a dress from Sarah Burton’s first collection, and artwork by acclaimed contemporary artists including Isaac Julien, Harland Miller and Chris Ofili.
