They visited several places, but once they came to ZSL London Zoo and saw the Mappin Pavilion, they knew they had found ‘the one’. The fact that the funds raised from their special day help ZSL protect animals and their habitats around the world was the icing on the cake and really appealed to Mei’s "inner hippy”.
They were delighted by the beautifully restored 1920’s building, not to mention the stunning views and the outdoor space, which overlooks the Outback exhibit. With their desire for a laid back and fuss free celebration firmly in mind, for their catering, Chris and Mei opted for an Ampersand barbecue on the terrace. This meant that every person in their intimate group could relax and get the most of the sunshine and their special surroundings, with something delicious to munch.
The barbecue sizzled with classic beef burgers, jerk seasoned chicken pieces, halloumi and vegetable skewers and grilled peppers, served with spicy rice and paprika butter. Hearty accompaniments and salads ensured that, while casual, this was a satisfying wedding breakfast feast. For dessert, guests could choose between cleansing their palates with a fresh seasonal fruit platter or indulging in a rich double chocolate brownie with vanilla cream and strawberries.
The outdoor dining and refreshing Pimm's on arrival were ideal for the summer's day celebration, and a chance to come face-to-face with a kinkajou, thanks to a ZSL Animal Encounter, was the perfect finishing touch.
"We could not have been happier with our ZSL London Zoo reception. The event coordinators were friendly, efficient and were there to help us in the lead up, as well as throughout the day itself. All of the other ZSL staff were also really lovely, including the bar and catering staff, and the zookeeper for the animal encounter. Speaking of which, the animal encounter itself was amazing, and made our day really unique and memorable.
